With over 10 years of hospitality experience, Dispense Espresso’s manager / owner Hamish Bell knows a thing or two about what makes a café great. Having worked for both Switch Espresso and Coffee Supreme, he has turned his energy into his own project, a petite cafe located in the suburb of Ferrymead.
You’d be forgiven for overlooking Dispense. Nestled amongst a busy business hub, the cafe isn’t visible from the street, and its discreet signs don’t immediately catch your eye.
This place is all about making simple food, made honestly. Everything is all made on site from scratch, with the exception of bread (supplied by Vic’s Bakery) and the ingredients used are organic, free range and locally sourced where possible. They turn rhubarb into jam, tamarillos into chutney and blueberries into glazed blueberry donuts. A dine-in menu is also available as well as a different fresh salad each day for eating in or taking away. Baked delights like chocolate fudge slice and a range of classic kiwi biscuits line the cabinets, and with the smell of Supreme Coffee in the air it’s hard to resist this café’s charm.
